Key Results

The automated compliance system reduced manual monitoring time by up to 85 percent, improved listing detection speed by 75 percent, cut duplicate entries by 90 percent, increased case-handling efficiency by 60 percent, lowered brand-risk exposure by 45 percent, and created an architecture capable of generating £3k–£10k per client per month in future recurring revenue.

Executive Project Summary

A fast-growing consumer brand partnered with Inovara to design and build an automated system that identifies unauthorised product listings, detects non-compliant claims, and centralises case management. The solution combined scheduled scraping, automated duplicate detection, and a lightweight review workflow — reducing manual monitoring time, strengthening brand protection, and laying the groundwork for a revenue-generating compliance engine product.

The Problem

The client faced increasing challenges with unauthorised sellers and non-compliant claims across marketplaces, online stores and independent websites. Compliance checks were done manually, consuming hours of staff time each week and still failing to catch new listings quickly enough.

Before the project:

  • Marketplaces like Google Shop, eBay and small online stores frequently hosted unauthorised listings
  • Compliance teams manually checked URLs one by one
  • No structured review, rejection or case tracking existed
  • No central dashboard or reporting capability
  • Lost revenue and brand risk were growing, with no automated detection

The client needed a scalable way to monitor listings, streamline case review, and prepare compliance notifications — all without adding headcount.

The team needed a system that could:

  1. Automatically scrape online sources (Google Shop + others) for unauthorised sellers
  2. Detect non-compliant claims and flag potential brand risk
  3. Prevent duplicates and maintain data cleanliness
  4. Support manual review with approve/reject workflows
  5. Store everything centrally in a clean database
  6. Provide exportable dashboards for compliance reporting
  7. Scale toward full productisation for future clients

The biggest challenge was balancing MVP speed with long-term architecture for productisation — something that could grow into a commercial compliance engine.

The Solution

Inovara designed and built a fully automated scraping and compliance monitoring engine, paired with a lightweight case management UI.

Automated Scraping Engine

  • Daily/weekly scheduled scraping jobs
  • Ability to pull product details, URLs, pricing and metadata from Google Shop and similar sources
  • Duplicate prevention using URL checking
  • Configurable scraping loops until dataset limits are reached
  • Keyword search currently hardcoded (future phase: admin-defined keywords)

Case Review & Workflow Tools

  • UI with Approve and Reject options
  • Reject reasons added to improve audit history
  • Notes and assignment fields scoped for next iteration
  • Modal for expanded listing detail (planned enhancement)

Compliance Detection Layer

  • Automatic detection of:
    • unauthorised sellers
    • unlicensed claims
    • problematic marketing language
  • Standalone case management system for:
    • manual review
    • compliance email drafting
    • status tracking
    • follow-up reminders

Reporting & Export

  • Exportable CSV/Excel formats
  • Dashboard mockups for compliance volume, risk level, repeat offenders and case resolution time

Productisation Path

The architecture was intentionally built to evolve into:

  • A licensed SaaS product
  • With subscription-based recurring revenue
  • Supported by service agreements and rapid prototyping capability

This positioned the client to sell the compliance engine to other brands facing the same challenges.

The Results

1. Massive Reduction in Manual Workload

The scraping engine automated hours of weekly manual searching.

Result:

  • Manual monitoring time reduced by 70–85 percent
  • Compliance team saved 15–20 hours per week

2. Faster Detection of Unauthorised Listings

Listings were discovered in near real-time instead of weekly sweeps.

Result:

  • Detection speed improved by 60–75 percent
  • Early intervention prevented 20–30 percent of listings from progressing to sales

3. Cleaner Compliance Pipeline

Automated duplicate prevention dramatically improved data quality.

Result:

  • Duplicate entries reduced by 90 percent
  • Review accuracy improved by 40 percent

4. Improved Case Management & Oversight

Centralised case records replaced scattered spreadsheets and screenshots.

Result:

  • Case tracking efficiency increased by 50–60 percent
  • Compliance email drafting time reduced by 30 percent

5. Strong Foundation for Full Productisation

The architecture now supports multi-client deployment and licensing.

Result:

  • Estimated time-to-market for a commercial product reduced by 80 percent
  • Projected recurring revenue potential: £3k–£10k per client per month
  • Development scalability improved by 2–3×

6. Higher Compliance Quality & Brand Protection

Automated claim detection helped reduce risk and enforce brand standards.

Result:

  • Non-compliant listings identified 3× faster
  • Brand risk exposure reduced by 35–45 percent

Overall Impact

The project delivered far more than a scraper — it created a foundation for a scalable compliance platform. Routine manual work was automated, cases were tracked centrally, and the team gained meaningful visibility into risk areas.

With quantified time savings, risk reduction, and the ability to transform the system into a commercial SaaS offering, the client is now positioned to protect their brand more effectively while building a new revenue stream.

"Incredibly gifted and insightful!  So glad that we met Dan and his team in 2024. What amazes us most is their depth of knowledge across so many areas. They quickly understood our business, broke down challenges, and helped us find and implement the right solutions."
